Michael Jackson’s U23 side are back in Premier League 2, Division 2 action for the first time in over seven weeks when they travel to Reading on Monday night (March 14).
Burnley were last involved in the league back on January 21, losing out late on to a high-flying Norwich City down in East Anglia after going ahead early in the first half through striker Joe McGlynn’s goal.
Since, as a result of numerous postponements and teams around them continuing to play games, the Clarets have slipped to 10th in the table.
Jackson’s side remain just six points away from the play-off spots at the time of writing however, and now have games in hand on some of the teams above them ahead of their trip to Reading’s Select Car Leasing stadium.
Most recently, the Clarets progressed through into the last four of the Lancashire FA Senior Cup with a 3-0 quarter-final victory away at Bolton Wanderers.

Irishman Dara Costelloe netted a brace at the Trotters’ Eddie Davies Academy, with fellow frontman Lewis Richardson - who has recently extended his contract at Turf Moor - also on the scoresheet as he continues his comeback from injury.
Although a date is still to be confirmed, Jackson’s side now know that they will travel to Accrington Stanley in the semi-finals of the regional cup competition though for now, attention turns back to the league.
Following the departure of manager Mehmet Ali in December, Monday night’s opponents Reading are now led by former forward Noel Hunt.
The Royals sit bottom of the PL2, Division 2 table and are without a win since November though did pick up a point from their last outing, drawing 0-0 away at Birmingham City.
Prior to their trip to Berkshire, Burnley are able to recall fondly on recent meetings with Hunt’s side having come out on top in all three of the pair’s last encounters.
Included in that is September’s reverse league fixture at the County Ground in Leyland where the Clarets ran out 3-1 winners. That night, Scotsmen McGlynn and Michael Mellon grabbed a goal with fellow striker Sam Unwin adding the third late on.
Monday night’s meeting is scheduled to get underway at 7:00pm with all coverage coming via @ClaretsAcademy on Twitter.
