Michael Jackson's U23s host Sunderland this evening at the Leyland County Ground in front of a crowd in their first home game of the new Premier League Two season.
The Clarets fell to a 3-2 defeat last Monday in their opener at West Brom, but put in a strong performance against the Baggies.
And young midfielder Will Hugill, who was battling against Robert Snodgrass in the middle of the park, believes there are plenty of positives to bring from last week into tonight's clash.
The second-year scholar said: "Of course the result last time out was disappointing, but there was still lots of positives to take out the game.
"Training has been sharp this week and I think everyone’s focused and ready to attack the game with confidence and pick up a good result.
"We know Sunderland are a good side, they are physically strong and well drilled with some good individuals.
"If we work hard and play at the intensity we have in training all week, I am confident of a positive performance and hopefully a good result."
Hugill, who has been a Burnley season ticket holder growing up, was a part of Tony Philliskirk's U18 side throughout last season as a first-year scholar.
But the Harrogate-born youngster, who played 90 minutes in the season opener last week for Jackson's side, believes it's great for his development at Turf Moor.
Hugill said: "Personally I think it’s great for me and my development as a player, It is a nice feeling, but it’s where I want to be to push myself so I can be the best player I can.
"The main difference for me between the 18s and 23s is the speed and intensity, everything has to be quicker both in and out of possession.
"If you dwell on the ball or take too long to make a decision you’ll be punished, the margins are a lot finer at this level."
Kick off is 7pm, with live updates throughout on Twitter (@ClaretsAcademy), followed by match report and reaction.
