Sean Dyche is set to shuffle the pack as the Clarets bid to make a winning start in the Carabao Cup.
Burnley go to St James’ Park to face top-flight rivals Newcastle United in the second round on Wednesday night.
And with a number of potential absentees and a visit from Leeds United on the horizon this weekend, Dyche is set to send out a new-look line-up to try and overcome the Tynesiders.
“It’s likely there will be some changes,” said the Burnley boss, whose side is looking for a first win of the season.
“We never thought anything other than we’ve got a tough start – on paper that is.
“It doesn’t always play out like that. We know that and having a Premier League club in the cup is another tough game, particularly away from home.
“That’s one of those things, but we will be ready.”
Midfielder Ashley Westwood and striker Matej Vydra both missed Saturday’s 2-0 loss at Liverpool through injury.
Neither is expected to be a long-term absentee but both may be given more time to recover, while Kevin Long and Dale Stephens are still to return.
That is likely to mean opportunities for others who have not featured heavily in the opening two games.
And while the Clarets want a place in round three for the fourth time in five years, building momentum in the league has to remain the number-one target.
“All managers; you want to field a team you believe can win,” added Dyche.
“We have never not shown any importance of the cup competitions. We have always had respect for them.
“It’s just a simple reality and I have said every season that I’ve been here that the main priority is the league – whether you’re in the Championship trying to win it, as we have done, or whether you’re in the Premier League trying to be in it – then it’s always going to be a priority.”
