Burnley U21s continue their Premier League 2 campaign with a trip to Stoke City on Monday night.

The young Clarets are in one of their better runs of form of the season, losing just one of their last six outings in all competitions.

On Thursday night they earned an impressive come from behind victory over Colchester United, eventually winning 5-2 after an end-to-end battle.

Vernon Masara opened the scoring with an emphatic finish, but Andy Farrell’s team were pegged back by Kien Connolly’s brace.

They didn’t let their heads drop, though, and two goals in as many minutes turned this Premier League Cup quarter-final on its head once more.

Ellis Clark bundled in a corner from close range and substitute Destiny Okonkwo made it 3-2 with a well-placed finish into the bottom left corner.

The young striker, who was making just his sixth U21s appearance, went on to net twice more on an evening that will live long in the memory.

Burnley’s last league encounter was a trip to Fulham, which they lost 3-1. As a result, their points tally now stands at nine from 16 matches.

Stoke City have earned 10 points more from one match fewer and currently sit 17th in the 29-team standings as a result.

The Potters are without a win in their last seven outings in all competitions, though, and were beaten 4-2 at Norwich City nine days ago.

Elliot Fearn broke the deadlock but Stoke then missed a golden opportunity to double their lead, with Chinoso Chibueze having a penalty saved.

The Canaries capitalised on that moment, with Luke Towler’s brace being accompanied by further strikes from Brandon Forbes and Toby Chilvers.

Former professional Liam Lawrence is the man in the Stoke dugout. He made just short of 500 professional appearances and earned 15 Republic of Ireland caps in an 18-year career.

Monday’s match is a 7pm kick-off at Crewe Alexendra’s Mornflake Stadium (CW2 6EB) and supporters can attend in person for free.
