Young Clarets start new season

Competitive Burnley action is back on Wednesday afternoon when the U21s travel to take on Rochdale in the National League Cup.

This is the first time the young Clarets have entered this competition, giving them the opportunity to test themselves against senior opposition.

Andy Farrell’s side head into it on the back of a competitive pre-season schedule, which culminated in a 3-1 victory over the University of Charleston on Friday afternoon.

A trialist, Zach Johnson and Kamarni Ryan were all on target – with the latter adding to his hat-trick against PL2 outfit Stoke City the week prior.

This game comes before Monday night’s league opener against Wolverhampton Wanderers.

Rochdale began their National League season with a 2-0 victory at Boreham Wood on Saturday afternoon.

Having lost out in last season’s play-offs, the Dale will be aiming for promotion to League Two once more and made the perfect start thanks to a debut brace from Mani Dieseruvwe.

The Greater Manchester side finished 3rd in Group B of the National League Cup last season, beating Blackburn Rovers U21s 4-1 along the way.

Wednesday’s match is a 1pm kick-off at the Crown Oil Arena (OL11 5DS), and entry is free for all. All supporters need to claim their complimentary ticket in advance HERE.

Rochdale are operating a family fun day, with live music, a BBQ, and junior activities like face painting and an inflatable assault course open from 11am.
