Burnley U21s are on the road on Friday afternoon, travelling to the Midlands to take on Coventry City in the Professional Development League.
The young Clarets saw a four-game unbeaten run in all competitions come to an end last time out, losing 4-2 to Hull City at the County Ground in Leyland.
Hull got off to the possible start, scoring three times in the first 21 minutes. However, Burnley showed resilience and character to reduce the arrears to one by the 75th minute through Will Hugill and Vernon Masara.
16-year-old Masara has now scored in back-to-back appearances at U21s level, while several U18s players were given the opportunity to play last weekend.
The Tigers scored a fourth in stoppage time to secure the victory, which leaves Andy Farrell’s Clarets 6th in the table with up to seven games in hand on the teams above them.
Coventry had a scheduled fixture against Sheffield United earlier this week postponed and come into this fixture in a rich vein of form.
Prior to a 1-1 draw with Birmingham City last time out, the Sky Blues had won three straight league games.
Coventry trail Burnley by four points and a place but, importantly, have played three games more. As such, Friday’s fixture represents a good opportunity for the Clarets to build on their league position.
These two teams are yet to face each other this season.
Supporters are welcome to attend this fixture, with admission and parking free at the Alan Higgs Centre (CV3 1HW).
