Burnley FC’s U21s side are back in action on Tuesday, as they welcome Sheffield Wednesday to the Burnley Training Centre in the Professional Development League (12pm KO, BST).
The Clarets enjoyed success last time out, with a 4-3 victory against Leicester City in their Premier League Cup Group G opener.
Wanya Marcal opened the scoring for the visitors before Joe Westley netted the leveller on the brink of half time.
Amani Richards put the Foxes back in front after the break, but Basilio Rieno Socoliche almost instantly replied with an effort from close range.
Three minutes later substitute Lewis Richardson put the Clarets in front for the first time in the game, and Westley bagged his brace to establish a two-goal advantage.
Silko Thomas scored a consolation in the final moments of the game, but Burnley had already done enough to secure the victory.
In their previous league game, the U21s also ran out winners, with a 3-0 triumph over Queens Park Rangers.
Striker Westley opened the scoring for the Clarets on the stroke of half time before firing home his second of the afternoon in the 70th minute and sealing his hat-trick eight minutes later to secure the three points.
That win leaves the Clarets sat 5th in the Professional Development League.
Tuesday’s opponents Sheffield Wednesday are headed up by former Ipswich Town defender Neil Thompson and have enjoyed a comfortable start to the season.
Permanent move for 19-year-old midfielder
They’ve seen three draws – against Millwall, Cardiff City and Bournemouth – and one win against Watford, before losing 2-0 last time out against Charlton Athletic.
Henry Rylah netted in the 78th minute to give the Addicks the lead before Tolu Ladapo made sure of the three points with the final kick of the game, to leave Wednesday 8th in the Professional Development League North table.
The last time the Clarets faced the Owls was back in January, as Tuesday’s hosts claimed a 3-0 victory at the Burnley Training Centre.
Following a goalless first half, forward Michael Mellon gave the Clarets the lead four minutes after the restart before goals from substitutes Seb Thompson and Kade Ratchford sealed the win.
