Burnley U21s return from their international break with a Premier League Cup match against Stockport County on Friday night.

The young Clarets have won their only Group F match to date, and a win here would strengthen their chances of progressing to the knockout stages even further.

That victory came over Cardiff City last month, and it was Charlie Veevers who marked his return to the side with a fantastic goal to break the deadlock.

Cardiff were behind for just seven minutes, though, and Mannie Barton restored parity with a close-range finish into the bottom left corner.

The long journey back to Lancashire was sweetened late on by Kamarni Ryan, who finished off a well-worked team move featuring scholars George Brierley and Kian McMahon-Brown to earn all three points.

Burnley’s last outing was the narrow Premier League 2 defeat to Chelsea just under two weeks ago, and Andy Farrell’s side will be keen to bounce back here.

Stockport County operate a category three academy from their base at Edgeley Park.

The Hatters started their Premier League Cup campaign with a defeat to last year’s winners Queens Park Rangers in Group F.

There has been recent first team involvement for several of County’s players, including in last week’s Vertu Trophy match against Salford City.

First year-scholar Joe Astles stole the show that night, coming off the bench with 15 minutes remaining to net a memorable brace and become the club’s youngest ever goal scorer at 16 years and 105 days.

County will know the importance of a result in Lancashire on Friday night, with a competitive match expected under the Autumn lights.

Kick-off at the County Ground in Leyland (PR25 2LF) is 7pm, and supporters are welcome to get behind the team in person.

Burnley season ticket holders can get in for free by showing their season ticket at the turnstiles, while other adults are priced at £5. Concessions are £2.
