Young Clarets continue Premier League Cup campaign

Burnley U21s return from their international break with a Premier League Cup match against defending champions Queens Park Rangers on Thursday night.

The young Clarets lost out to the R’s at the semi-final stage last season, so will be keen to earn a positive result under the lights at the County Ground in Leyland.

Andy Farrell’s team have made a perfect start to this campaign, winning both matches against Cardiff City and Stockport County.

The home game against Stockport was our latest outing in this competition, in which Charlie Veevers and Jack McEvilly gave us a two-goal lead.

Stockport then restored parity, but a stoppage-time own goal gave the young Clarets all three points.

Burnley’s last game before the international break was a trip to Newcastle United in Premier League 2, when a stoppage-time goal denied Farrell and co a share of the points.

Centre-back Jesse Williams continued his goalscoring form in the Northeast, as did striker Joe Bevan.

Queens Park Rangers operate a category two academy but as detailed above, have had previous success in the Premier League Cup.

They’re unbeaten in the competition this season too, following up a 3-1 victory at Stockport County with a 2-2 draw at home to Cardiff City.

The West Londoners saw a seven-game unbeaten run in all competitions come to an end last week, losing 2-1 to Millwall in the Professional Development League.

Jake Coomes netted his ninth goal of 2025/26, but goals from Millwall’s Frankie Baker and Harry Taylor condemned them to defeat.

Former QPR player Paul Furlong is now in charge of their U21s, having initially worked with some of their younger age groups and later managing the U18s.

Kick-off at the County Ground in Leyland (PR25 2LF) is 7pm, and supporters are welcome to get behind the team in person.

Burnley season ticket holders can get in for free by showing their season ticket at the turnstiles, while other adults are priced at £5. Concessions are £2.50.
