Midfielder joins Chester for a month

Burnley U21s continue their Premier League Cup campaign with the visit of in-form Brighton & Hove Albion on Saturday afternoon (kick-off 3pm).

Andy Farrell’s team are looking forward to their first Turf Moor fixture of this season, with supporters encouraged to get their football fix in BB10 during the international break.

Season ticket holders can claim free entry, with players who have featured in the first team squad this campaign like Will Hugill, Tommy McDermott, Vernon Masara and Joe Westley expected to be involved.

It’s been a busy schedule of late for the U21s, who beat Peterborough United 5-2 on Wednesday afternoon.

Tom Tweedy, Joe Westley, Joe Bevan, Benn Ward and Kamarni Ryan were all on target as the team made it nine goals in two games following a big win at Luton Town the week prior.

This is a Group G fixture, and Burnley started their calendar with that emphatic 4-1 victory at Kenilworth Road.

Westley netted a brace on that occasion, with Joe Bauress and summer recruit Kamarni Ryan also on target in Bedfordshire.

Saturday’s game should be an entertaining affair, with Brighton also scoring four times in an opening week victory over Reading.

The south coast side operate a category one academy, meaning they compete in Premier League 2.

It was in that competition that they beat Crystal Palace 10-0 in the ‘M23 derby’ last weekend, with Caylan Vickers netting a hat-trick and Harry Howell managing a brace.

Led by Head Coach Shannon Ruth, the Seagulls also played on Wednesday of this week against AFC Varndeanians in the Sussex Transport Senior Cup.

Speaking ahead of the game, Burnley U21s Manager Andy Farrell said: “I’m really looking forward to it.

“It’s a great occasion to get on Turf Moor and if the lads aren’t looking forward to it I think there’s something wrong with them!

“Hopefully we can get a bit of a crowd to cheer the players on and try and replicate a first team matchday experience as much as we possibly can.”

Farrell and his players would greatly appreciate your support on the day, with the Bob Lord Stand open to spectators.

Season ticket holders can claim a complimentary ticket in advance of the day online here, over the phone - 01282 446800 - or in person at the Turf Moor ticket office.

Alternatively, they can present their season card at the turnstiles.

Other adults are priced at £5, with concessions priced at £2.

If you can’t be there in person, you can follow live updates on X @ClaretsAcademy and read a match report on www.burnleyfootballclub.com after the final whistle.
