Clarets in Central League Cup action

Burnley U21s continue their Central League Cup campaign on Tuesday afternoon, welcoming Accrington Stanley to the Burnley Training Centre for a 1pm kick-off.

The Clarets have enjoyed their time in the competition to date, beating Blackburn Rovers 2-0 and fellow Lancashire side Preston North End 4-0.

Run by the EFL, the Central League Cup is classed as a ‘reserve’ competition, meaning there are no age limits for players taking part.

Burnley and Accrington Stanley are in Group B alongside the two previously mentioned clubs and Wrexham, with the winner progressing to the semi-final stage.

Andy Farrell’s team come into the game on the back of a 4-0 Professional Development League victory over Peterborough United.

Mikey O’Neill opened the scoring and Will Hugill struck from range before Forward Joe Bevan scored a second-half brace to secure a valuable three points.

Accrington Stanley have also won their two Central League Cup matches thus far, scoring nine goals in the process.

As such, the winner of this tie will put themselves in a healthy position ahead of the final round of group games.

Supporters are welcome to attend this fixture for free. If you can’t make it, you can follow live updates on X @ClaretsAcademy and read a match report after the final whistle on www.burnleyfootballclub.com.
