Burnley U21s are back in Premier League Cup action on Saturday afternoon, taking on Brentford B at Wheatsheaf Park, Staines (12.30pm KO).
The young Clarets were last in competitive action on Tuesday 9th January, when a late Chris Sze equaliser earned opponents Wigan Athletic a league point at Leyland’s County Ground.
Now turning their focus to the Premier League Cup, Burnley sit third in the four-team Group G table courtesy of a win and a draw from their four matches.
Opponents Brentford B, led by Head Coach Neil MacFarlane, are a point and a place better off, so Saturday’s game is an opportunity for the Clarets to leapfrog the Londoners into second.
The reverse fixture earlier this season resulted in an entertaining 3-3 draw at Chorley’s Victoria Park.
Goals from Lewis Richardson and Will Hugill cancelled out the Bees’ two goal-lead in a frantic first half, before Brentford restored their advantage in the second period.
The Clarets weren’t beaten, however, as Burnley fan and box-to-box midfielder Hugill struck again to earn a point for the team’s efforts.
Brentford, who play a bespoke games model as part of their Academy structure, were last in action in a behind-closed doors friendly against OCG Nice before Christmas. The match finished 0-0.
