Burnley U21s are back in action on Friday afternoon when they travel to Blackburn Rovers’ Brockhall Training Ground.
The match will be played behind closed doors, with three Central League Cup Group A points up for grabs.
Andy Farrell’s side have won eight matches on the spin, including a 3-1 victory over Category One outfit Reading in the Premier League Cup last Friday.
A quickfire double from Murray Campbell and Tom Tweedy gave the young Clarets control at the Select Car Leasing Stadium, but the Royals were able to pull one back before half-time.
Joe Westley calmed any nerves after the break with a fine finish that leaves them top of their group in that competition.
The U21s have played one Central League Cup game so far this season, and that was at home to Carlisle United last week.
Farrell’s side ran riot at Burnley Training Centre, with Tweedy netting a brace alongside goals from Westley, Tommy McDermott and Joe Bauress.
Burnley and Rovers are level on points at the top of Group A, which now only consists of four teams following Barrow’s withdrawal.
Our East Lancashire neighbours also beat Carlisle 5-0 in their only game to date, with several first-team players featuring including Kyle McFadzean, Joe Rankin-Costello and Todd Cantwell.
Led by Mike Sheron, Blackburn U21s played Athletic Bilbao B just yesterday in the Premier League International Cup.
The game was postponed after just 23 minutes though, with thick fog making it unplayable at Accrington Stanley’s Wham Stadium.
With supporters not allowed to watch the 1pm kick-off in person, the only way to follow the action is via our live updates on X @ClaretsAcademy.
