Bashir Humphreys spoke of his excitement at joining up with the England U21s 24-man group for their upcoming friendlies against Spain and the Netherlands.
The Young Lions travel to Cadiz to face Spain at La Linea de la Concepción on Friday 15th November (5.30pm GMT), then take a trip to the Netherlands where they play at the Yanmar Stadium in Almere three days later (5:45pm GMT). And the defender is hoping to grab the opportunity of gaining valuable international experience.
“It’s an honour. I was there last season and I haven’t been called up to the first two camps, so it’s a pleasure to be back really. Hopefully, I can pull the shirt on and play again. I love playing for England.”
The 21-year-old has made nine appearances for the Clarets so far this season, starting seven games. Heading into international duty on the back of Burnley’s win against Swansea City at the weekend, does he find it a good feeling arriving on the positivity of a win?
“Yes 100%. I think that game is a testament to it being fine margins in football, that really changes the narrative for us.
“We needed a win, we’ve had a few draws, a few games where we’ve not scored goals, so it’s nice for us to end that sort of segment of the season with a win. Then we can start pushing on when we get back.”
Whilst excited about being named in England's Interim Men’s Under 21s boss Ben Futcher’s side, Humphreys is also looking forward to getting back to work with Burnley after the international break.
“This is the work time of the season, there’s games coming thick and fast, not as much training so your head is just focussing on the next game and playing the next team. I love it.”
