Welshman Tom Tweedy struck late on to earn Burnley U21s a 2-1 victory over Swansea City on Tuesday afternoon.
Tommy McDermott opened the scoring at the Landore Training Centre, but the Clarets were pegged back shortly after halftime by Kyrell Wilson.
Andy Farrell’s team weren’t to be denied, though, and former Swansea Academy player Tweedy struck with a cool finish in the 89th minute to ensure they’d return to winning ways.
The manager reverted to most of the side that started last week’s Central League Cup victory over Stockport County, with players returning from suspensions and recovering from knocks. There was also a start for U18s left-back Oli Pimlott.
After a quiet start goalmouth action wise, the young Clarets took a 19th-minute lead from the penalty spot through McDermott.
Swansea were unable to find an equaliser before the break, with the Burnley defence and goalkeeper Charlie Casper repelling several chances.
Their goal eventually came with 51 minutes on the clock and the Welsh side started to build momentum, with Casper doing well to stop Wilson doubling his tally.
Farrell then started to utilise his squad, introducing Lewis Richardson for more valuable minutes as he continues his recovery from injury and Basilio Socoliche.
The winning goal came late on as Tweedy, playing in his native Wales, finished calmly to earn the U21s a 12th Professional Development League win of the season.
The young Clarets are up to 6th in the North section of the table ahead of Bristol City’s visit to the County Ground, Leyland, on Saturday.
