Burnley FC’s U21s side played out a draw with Fleetwood Town at the Burnley Training Centre in Professional Development League action, with the game ending 1-1.
Tom Tweedy struck for the Clarets, before Finn Armstrong levelled with 15 minutes to go, and Joe Westley missed a spot kick in the 82nd minute and that meant that the points were shared in the home game.
There were four changes to the side that beat Wigan Athletic 1-0 on Monday, with Charlie Casper coming into the side in place of Denis Franchi, and first team players Han-Noah Massengo, CJ Egan-Riley and Darko Churlinov all came in from the start.
First Half
The Clarets started well, seeing a lot of the ball, before Darko Churlinov was sent through and rounded the ‘keeper but his effort could only find the outside of the post from a tight angle.
Burnley would take the lead eight minutes before the game after a prolonged spell of possession resulted in Kian Le Fondre drilling a low effort towards goal, which was deflected into the path of Tom Tweedy, who placed the ball into the far corner.

Theo Williams would have the last chance of the half, and the visitors first real opportunity of the game when he cut inside from the left and curled a right-footed shot towards goal, that was held easily by the returning Casper.
Second Half
Burnley began the second half as well as they ended the first, with goalscorer Tweedy slipping through Lewis Richardson, but the midfielder was thwarted by a smart stop from Fleetwood ‘keeper Tom Donaghy.
First half substitute Le Fondre then picked the ball up on the left and drove towards goal, but Donaghy was equal to his effort once more, saving with his legs.
Richardson was becoming heavily involved in the play in the second half, and almost put the Clarets two up when he won the ball back on the edge, cut inside and only an outstretched arm of Donaghy stopped him from adding the second.
Burnley were made to rue missed opportunities, as ex-Claret Finn Armstrong found space in the area and hammered a strike back across the goal into the far top corner, leaving Casper with no chance.

The Clarets had an opportunity to go back in front, as Tweedy was fouled in the box by Armstrong and Westley stepped up to take the spot kick, but his effort was saved by Donaghy.
In what was the last chance of the game, Dan Sassi sent a brilliant flicked header towards the bottom corner from Richardson’s free kick and the impressive Donaghy did well to tip the ball wide to ensure the points were shared.
The U21s are back in action next Saturday – 7th October – when they face Brentford in the Premier League Cup at Victory Park in Chorley.
