A youthful Burnley XI contested the club’s final Premier League 2 match of the season on Sunday afternoon, with Blackburn Rovers U21s wining 2-0 at Gawthorpe.
With the U21s also contesting a Premier League Cup semi-final against West Bromwich Albion on Monday night, there was a youthful look to the starting XI here.
U18s Albert Blackie, Michael Stanley, Corey King and Troy Savage provided the most experience, while defender Glen Ilunga and Jas Mmakogu stepped up from the U16s group.
The Clarets had the first chance of note when Scanlon tested Blackburn ‘keeper Nicolas Michalski, but the visitors opened the scoring through Harry Lister’s close-range finish in the 13th minute.
A trialist was playing in goal for the young Clarets, and he suffered a serious injury midway through the first half that resulted in more than 20 minutes of stoppage-time.
Everybody at the Club wishes him all the best in his recovery, and the shot stopper was replaced by Felix Chester.
Destiny Okonkwo tested Nicolas Michalski soon after the restart, but that was our only effort on goal before the break.

Stanley made way for U16 centre-back Darren Oshodi at the interval and the young Clarets emerged from the interval with added intensity in the Spring sunshine.
Okonkwo headed wide from a Mmakogu cross and Savage fired over from the edge of the area, before Mmakogu made way for Vishon Masara and Anwar Murtesa later replaced King soon after.
Blackburn doubled their lead with 16 to play, though, when England youth international Harvey Higgins converted Clanford’s whipped cross with the help of a post.
Okonkwo and Blackie both fired presentable chances over in the final five minutes and the result means that Burnley finish the PL2 season with 13 points from 20 matches.
