Burnley's U21 side were beaten 5-3 by Rangers in their final pre-season game of their St Andrews week-long training camp.
In a game that took place at Rangers Training Centre, the home side raced into an early 2-0 lead, after scoring from the spot and the edge of the area.
Benn Ward then rose highest at the back post to head in Marcel Lewis’ free kick before Charlie Casper saved from the spot, only to be beaten by the rebound as Rangers made it 3-1.
Early in the second half, Joe Westley planted his penalty into the bottom corner to give the Clarets a way back into the game, but the Gers would net a fourth and fifth soon after.
Westley added another goal to his pre-season tally late on, but it was too late for Burnley, who fell to defeat.
Speaking after the game, Coach Charlie Adam said: “In all I think they had spells in the game where they controlled the match, and we controlled it in big parts as well.
“At the top end of the pitch we created a lot of chances.
“But unfortunately, if we don’t defend properly, we’ll concede the goals that we conceded so we have to look back on that and hopefully we’ll learn from the mistakes that we made, and we’ll progress and get better.”
A former Rangers player himself, spending six years with the Club, Adam was happy to be back at his old sides training ground, despite the Clarets result.
He added: “It’s always nice to come back as it was almost 20 years ago that I started here.
“It’s a huge football club and it was a competitive match for us, so it was good to be back.
“But the result is something we want to try and rectify, and these are the quality of games that we need to be playing at as an Academy and pushing and trying to get these players in a first team environment.”
