Burnley’s U21 side are back in Professional Development League action on Tuesday afternoon – October 18 – as they travel to the Midlands to take on Coventry City (13:00 KO).
The Clarets head to the Alan Higgs Centre looking to extend their unbeaten run in the league, which currently stands at six matches. Four of those have come on the road, and Burnley’s only defeat in any competition since 22nd August came at home to Arsenal in the Premier League Cup.
Last time out, the U21s drew 2-2 against Birmingham City at the Burnley Training Centre. Halil Dervişoğlu was on target from the penalty spot after Owen Dodgson had levelled things up before a late equaliser from the visitors saw the points shared.
That result maintained Burnley’s 2nd place status in the Northern Section of the PDL, a point ahead of Hull City in 3rd & eight behind Sheffield United in 1st who have both played a game more.
In the Clarets last league outing away from home, a 2-0 win at Wigan Athletic, centre back Benn Ward was on the scoresheet. He has now put pen to paper on a three-year professional deal with the Club.
Elsewhere, Kade Ratchford has now returned to the U21s squad having seen his youth loan at Bamber Bridge come to an end. Jacson Coppack and Joe McGlynn are also back at the Club.
The trio will be in contention for tomorrow’s game at Coventry, who are 6th in the league table. Under the guidance of boss John Dempster, the Sky Blues have picked up nine points from their first eight league games of the campaign.
Striker McGlynn adds to tally for table toppers Hyde
All of those nine have been earned across three victories, with defeat in the other five and the first draw of their season still awaited.
Dempster’s side lost 3-0 at home to Northern Section leaders Sheffield United last Monday with the Blades striking shortly before & after half-time then finishing the game off with their third in the 89th minute.
The Clarets trip to the Midlands will bring a first meeting with the Sky Blues at U23/U21 level since August 2019. Experienced striker Max Biamou played for the visitors at Turf Moor that afternoon, and scored the opener, before Tunde Bayode levelled things up late on to earn Burnley a point.
Supporters can attend the Alan Higgs Centre – CV3 1JP – free of charge on Tuesday afternoon, with City advising that parking is also free but on a first come, first served basis.
