Friendlies added for both sides with league games moved in run up to end of season

Burnley’s U21 side host Wigan Athletic on Monday afternoon – 20th February – in a first Professional Development League encounter at the County Ground, Leyland since October (2pm KO).

Since, the Clarets have been involved in various cup competitions and have utilised both Turf Moor and the Burnley Training Centre for their home games in the league.

The Latics’ visit to Leyland presents Burnley with an opportunity for a first league win in three having drawn 1-1 away at Birmingham City last time out.

Halil Dervişoğlu was the name on the scoresheet for the Clarets in the Midlands, finishing off a well-worked move involving centre back Jack Turner and versatile attacker Renaldo Torraj.

That result leaves Burnley 4th in the Northern Section of the PDL at the time of writing, three points off Hull City in 2nd who occupy a play-off place but with a game in hand.

Monday’s opponents Wigan meanwhile sit a place higher in 3rd, also three points ahead having played two games more than Burnley.

The Latics – managed by former Blackpool defender Stephen Crainey – won 1-0 at home against Coventry City in their last outing, Chris Sze scoring the winner late on.

Now on loan in Sky Bet League Two with Bradford City, Irish forward Dara Costelloe was amongst the goalscorers when the Clarets travelled to the DW Stadium for the reverse fixture back in October.

Costelloe netted on the hour-mark, with centre back Benn Ward heading home a second soon after to seal three points with a 2-0 victory.

Entry at the County Ground for Monday’s meeting is free to all. If you can’t make it, we’ll be covering the game over on Twitter via @ClaretsAcademy. We’ll also have a report for you post-match here on burnleyfc.com
