Burnley’s U21 side return to action in the Professional Development League on Monday afternoon – 17th April – at the County Ground in Leyland against Bristol City (2pm KO).
The Clarets haven’t played a league game for two weeks, filling the void with friendlies including a 2-0 win against a Stockport County XI at Edgeley Park last Tuesday evening. Against the Hatters, two second half goals made the difference with Seb Thompson on target from the penalty spot while striker Joe Westley added the second.

Now, as league action commences, Burnley have four games remaining to mount a push for 2nd spot and a place in the end-of-season national play-offs.
Only the top two from the northern & southern sections of the PDL respectively progress into those play-offs, and Sheffield United have already cemented top spot in the former.
The Clarets sit 5th at the time of writing with 31 points from their 24 games to date, two points behind Wigan Athletic in 2nd.
Crewe Alexandra in 4th (31 points) have also played 24, while Hull City in 3rd (33 points) have played one more.

Monday’s meeting with Bristol City provides Burnley the chance to go in search of a first win in five in the PDL having lost three – all away from home - and drawn one of their previous four outings.
Standing in their way though are a Robins side sat 2nd in the Southern Section and one which looks almost certain off a play-off spot.
Nine clear of Swansea City in 3rd, who have played the same number of games, the Reds are on 49 points from their 23 games and trail only Millwall in 1st by two points with the Lions having played one more at this stage.
The Robins are unbeaten in five league games, beating Ipswich Town 4-1 at home last time out courtesy - in large part - of a Sebastian Palmer-Houlden hat-trick.

Elsewhere, they were recently knocked out of the Premier League Cup on penalties by Premier League 2, Division 2 outfit Nottingham Forest.
Last time Burnley met City at U23/U21 level, it was the Robins who ran out 3-2 winners at Ashton Gate back in March 2019. Rob Harker & Dan Agyei were the Burnley goalscorers that evening.
This time around, entry will be free to all at the Lancashire FA’s headquarters. If you can’t make it though, follow our coverage over on Twitter - @ClaretsAcademy – and make sure to read the post-match report right here on burnleyfc.com.
