Battle of the roses on Tuesday afternoon

Burnley U18s continue their Professional Development League campaign against Barnsley on Tuesday afternoon (1pm kick-off).

Tony Philliskirk’s team are in a positive vein of form and could stretch their unbeaten run to five matches at Burnley Training Centre in Padiham.

The young Clarets beat Cardiff City 3-1 in their last outing just over a week ago, with forward Ryan Tioffo marking his return from a lengthy spell on the sidelines with a goal.

Benji Wetshi and U16s player Fabio So were also on target that day, and the result followed a convincing 4-1 triumph over fellow Welsh side Swansea City.

Burnley have scored 12 goals and taken 10 points from their last four matches and find themselves 4th in the 11-team North section table with 42 points from 27 games.

They have three league games left to play and have an outside chance of making the top two, which would see them compete in the end of season play offs.

Beating Barnsley would increase their chances of doing so, with the Reds sitting five points better off in 3rd. The Tykes have, however, played a game less.

Their last two games have ended in 2-0 defeats to Swansea and Sheffield Wednesday, so they’ll be eager to return to winning ways as soon as possible.

The reverse fixture ended in a 2-1 victory for Barnsley back in March, with the South Yorkshire side scoring at the start of both halves to take control.

Adam Abbas struck three minutes from time but it wasn’t enough to earn a point in the end.

Supporters are welcome to attend this fixture free of charge.
