It’s been a busy few weeks for the Academy in the Community programme, with nine of the Club’s first-year scholars visiting sessions run by Burnley FC in the Community.
The Academy in the Community initiative, which launched in October, paired players from the U18s and U17s age groups with programmes that the Club’s charity runs that they’d like to support.
During the Easter school holidays Logan Carlin, Felix Chester and Jack McEvilly dropped by an activity camp for children aged between five and 12.
The players took part in a diverse range of activities including football, dancing and nerf wars!
On the experience, Logan Carlin said: “It’s good, not just for me but for all the lads, to be part of this community project.
“When I was a kid I came to these camps and really enjoyed them, especially when they include people like me, first-team players and anything related to the club badge.
“I wouldn’t mind attending again in the future, to be honest!”
The excitement continued beyond the activity camp with Marley Leuluai, Ben Jordison and Frankie McMahon-Brown visiting Bertie’s Footy Stars, a programme for children aged between three and six.
Adam Abbas, Luca Jackson and Oli Pimlott then took the time to visit a Player Development Centre for 9-11 year olds at Prairie Sports Village.
The aim of the Academy in the Community programme is to provide our scholars with a deeper connection to Burnley as a town, and to foster positive engagement with the local community by having a regular presence.
The scholars will also begin to experience what it is like to engage in public speaking, improve their communication and relationship building skills and generally feel more confident in new environments.
It is hoped that these will be valuable skills that all players can use later in life no matter where their football journey takes them.
BFCitC’s Director of Football, Sport and Education Chris Andrews added: “We’re thrilled with the progress of our Academy in the Community programme over the past year.
“The players have seamlessly become part of our sessions and it’s been a joy to see their active involvement.
“We’re excited about the future of this programme and the opportunity to expand it even further.”
