Young Clarets set for league clash in south Yorkshire

U18S MATCH REPORT: WATFORD 0 - 0 BURNLEY - Image 2

Burnley U18s return to the pitch against Barnsley on Friday afternoon, aiming to stretch their unbeaten Professional Development League run to five matches. Kick-off at the Barnsley Training Complex is 1pm.

Tony Philliskirk's team's last outing was a 1-1 draw against Sheffield Wednesday at the Burnley Training Centre in late February.

The Owls took the lead within the first minute with an outstanding long-range effort from Jarvis Thornton. However, moments before the break, the Clarets fought back after Adam Abbas was fouled within the area, resulting in a penalty.

Callum West confidently stepped up and hammered the ball into the bottom corner from 12 yards to earn a point, following another stalemate against Sheffield United and victories over Crewe Alexandra and Coventry City.

As a result, Burnley are 5th in the league table with 28 points from seven wins and seven draws in 19 matches.

Friday's opponents Barnsley are competing at the top end of the table, sitting 2nd with 32 points from 16 matches. That includes an impressive 10 wins, and the Tykes boast a healthy goal difference too.

Nicky Eaden's team come into the match with significant momentum following back-to-back victories. They secured a 4-2 win against Coventry City and most recently, they impressed with a 3-1 home win over Cardiff City earlier this week.

The two teams are yet to play each other this season.

Supporters are welcome to attend the game at the Barnsley Training Complex on Friday afternoon. If you can’t make it, you can follow updates on X @ClaretsAcademy and a match report will follow on www.burnleyfootballclub.com.
