Johnson nets in pre-season friendly

Burnley U18s played out a one all draw with a strong Lech Poznan side on Saturday as the Academy’s Poland training camp nears its end.

Having fielded an eleven consisting mainly of first-year scholars against Warta Poznan earlier this week, Manager Tony Philliskirk gave his second years more minutes today.

The Young Clarets started brightly and Johnson broke the deadlock on eight minutes, controlling the ball well and poking it past the goalkeeper.

Poznan grew into the game and ‘keeper Felix Chester did well to thwart two goalscoring opportunities, however, an equaliser came shortly after the half hour.

Philliskirk rotated his squad in the second half with the introductions of Troy Savage, Brandon Pouani, Albert Blackie, Joe Wilcock and Braidin Derbyshire and various players showed positional flexibility.

Both teams probed in search of a winner but it was Chester who made the pick of the saves in the final 20 minutes, standing strong to deny a Lech striker one-on-one.

Once back in England the U18s will turn their attention to their opening Professional Development League match against AFC Bournemouth on Saturday 10th August.
