Burnley’s youth team were beaten 3-1 in South London by Millwall, who are now joint top of the Southern Section in the U18 Professional Development League.
Falling behind early on to Kavalli Heywood’s opener, Callum West levelled things up for the Young Clarets before Frankie Baker’s second half double sealed the three points for the hosts at their training ground.
Trevon Bryan and U16 centre back Jack McEvilly both came in from the off, replacing Sonny Pickup & Brad Grant, who was serving the last of his three-game suspension after last week’s red card in the 1-0 loss at Sheffield United.
First Half
Millwall were ahead within two minutes as a mixup at the back allowed Heywood to make his way into the box and slot past Jon Ander Vilar Robinson at close range.

Arezki Hamouchene then fired over from the edge of the area for the hosts before midfielder West grabbed his first goal of the campaign on 11 minutes to equalise.
Joe Ashton’s diagonal ball was brought down well by Wiktor Gromek who dinked a ball to the back post, and West was there sliding in to comvert at point-blank range despite the best efforts of Lions goalkeeper George Evans.
In an action-packed first 45 minutes, Bryan then got denied by Evans at close range while Alfie Massey rattled the top of the crossbar at the other end in what was the last chance of the half.
Second Half
Burnley started quickly come the restart and could’ve been ahead within two minutes If it hadn’t been for another good save from Evans to deny Bryan one-on-one.
Both Ashton and captain Joe Westley also saw chances come and go before the hosts took advantage of a slip from the former at a cross into the area on 63 minutes, sliding the ball across the box for Baker to bundle home.
Vilar Robinson was alert to keep out Jack Howland one-on-one when the referee controversially allowed play to continue with Bryan down needing treatment to a head injury.
After receiving treatment for that, Bryan then rounded Evans a few minutes later but off-balance fired his shot against the post and the Lions scrambled clear. He was again denied by the shot stopper five minutes later before the hosts doubled their advantage.
Struggling to get the ball under his control on a cut-up surface, Vilar Robinson was disposed by Baker who ran clear to fire into an empty net.
The Young Clarets continued to push for a route back into the contest in the 11 minutes plus time added on which remained, but one wasn’t to come and after Nathan James had headed over from a corner, the full time whistle sounded.
