Returning home after four consecutive away games, Tony Philliskirk’s youth team began a jam-packed April schedule with a 1-1 draw against Queens Park Rangers.
Goalless at the break, the visitors took the lead early on in the second half before Rohan Vaughan powered home a leveller soon after to ensure the shares would be spoiled at the Burnley Training Centre.
In what was the first of seven league & cup games this month, Philliskirk made four changes to the side that had been beaten 4-0 at Peterborough United a week ago. Jon Ander Vilar Robinson returned in goal alongside a trialist, Jack Rogers & goalscorer Vaughan.
First Half
In a largely quiet opening 45 minutes, the first chance of the game fell Burnley’s way seven minutes in as Sonny Pickup’s strike was saved well by QPR goalkeeper Harry Cant.

Sam Bagan then fired over from distance at the other end, while after the half-hour mark Vaughan had two chances in quick succession.
First seeing a poke at goal cleared off the line following good work from defender Jack McEvilly to push forward and put a low cross into the box, striker Vaughan was also denied by a good save from Cant at close range moments later.
Pickup then tried his luck again with a similar rasping strike towards the end of the half, but that was also blocked by an Rs defender and cleared away, with the contest goalless come the interval.
Second Half
Burnley also had the first change following the restart as Kian Le Fondre’s shot from inside the area was deflected, but Cant recovered well to gather before the ball could trickle over the line.
And on 55 minutes, against the run of play, the visitors netted the opener through Riley Owen who tapped into an empty net following an initial good save by Vilar Robinson to keep out a shot from another QPR man.

It wouldn’t take long for the equaliser to come though, as just six minutes later Vaughan fired past Cant on the half volley inside the area. Captain Joe Ashton’s cross from the left wing hadn’t been dealt with, and when the ball fell to him via a deflection, Vaughan made no mistake.
A period with few chances followed, as both teams made changes, before Vilar Robinson came up with a huge stop, gathering the ball from the feet of Keiron Petrie who was trying to round him one-on-one.
Efforts continued at both ends, as both Lucas Wane & Ryan Tioffo fired over for the Young Clarets, and Jake Leahy sent a strike over for the visitors who had counter-attacked well to create the opportunity.
Callum West then saw Cant tip his strike around the post, and Tioffo broke through one-on-one, but a heavy touch allowed the ‘keeper to gather before he could get a shot away.

In the closing stages, Burnley saw centre back Jack Bates shown a straight red card for an alleged stamp.
