Burnley FC’s U18s drew against Wigan Athletic at the Burnley Training Centre in the Professional Development League, with the game ending 0-0.
Lucas Wane almost found the opener, as he curled a free kick around the Latics' wall, however the ball fell just wide of the post.
Soon after, Wane’s corner found Zach Johnson and he played into Vernon Masara, who’s header was tipped over by Matt Wonnacott.
Masara found himself with another opportunity late on as Callum West sent the ball down the line to Wane, and as the ball fell to Masara’s feet, he smashed the ball wide and the points were shared.
First Half
The game got off to an even start, but Burnley had the first chance, as Wane curled a free-kick over the Wigan wall, which dropped inches wide of the post.

The Clarets dominated possession during the first twenty minutes, and Olly Sweeney caused issues for Troy Malunda, before crossing the ball to Johnson, who’s shot was kept out by ‘keeper Wonnacott
The Latics' first effort of the morning arrived when Charley McKee utilised the wing and linked up with Christy Edwards, who took a shot at goal, but Jon Vilar Robinson did well to keep out the strike.
The Clarets quickly regained the foothold in the first half, as Wane squared for Johnson who played into Masara, however, the forward could only head the ball wide of the far post.
Jack Rogers laid off Callum West, who’s shot was deflected behind for a corner, which in turn came to nothing in the last action of the opening 45.
Second Half
The Clarets resumed the game on the front foot, with Wane and Masara continuing to put pressure on the Latics defence but both were unable to find the back of the net.

The Latics had their first chance of the second half when Malunda drove at the Clarets defence and sent the ball to Elijah Igiehon, who tested Vilar Robinson but the ‘keeper was equal to his strike.
Clarets pushed for their final chance in added time, when West played into Wane, who found Masara, but he could only hammer wide.
The hosts' efforts at finding the winning goal continued until the final whistle, however Tony Philliskirk’s side were unable to find the net, meaning the points were shared.
