Burnley FC Academy players from the U11 and U12 age groups took part in the ‘Faro International Cup’ last week, which involved sixteen teams from around the world including Real Betis, Sevilla, Atletico Madrid, Rangers and Chelsea.
In the Clarets’ games, they faced FC Jingeon from South Korea, Spanish side Betis and Portuguese teams Benfica and Madeira.
It was a successful week on the whole, especially for Burnley’s Kaden Dinsdale, who was selected from all the players that took part in the tournament, to take part in an ‘All-Star Game’ and scored two goals in the fixture.
As well as on the pitch, it was a fantastic experience off the pitch, with players completing educational packs throughout the trip, facilitated by our education department, and in between matches also enjoying visits to the Faro Old Town and Marina.
Speaking after the trip, FP Lead at Burnley FC Richard Geoghegan said: “These types of experiences are incredible for our players and staff.
“The opportunities for the boys to grow both on and off the pitch are immense, as we play against some outstanding teams from across the world, whilst developing their independence in a fantastic environment.
“Our players were exposed to new languages and cultures, whilst making friends with players from countries such as Finland, Spain, Portugal and Denmark.
“The boys can be proud of their efforts on the pitch too and the way they conducted themselves around the tournament was commended by the organisers.
“They even managed to join the Sevilla parents in supporting their players in the tournament final.
“I’d like to thank all of the staff, players and parents involved who represented the club extremely well and I am sure all made memories to last a lifetime!”
