Boss Sean Dyche hopeful on return for Westwood and Vydra

The Clarets could have Ashley Westwood and Matej Vydra back in contention as they go looking for their first Premier League win of the season against Leeds United.

The pair both missed last Saturday’s defeat at Liverpool, with Westwood ruled out by a toe injury and Vydra suffering with a groin problem he picked up in a mid-week workout at Manchester United.

But midfield man Westwood – an ever-present in the Premier League last season – and frontman Vydra, who has been named in the Czech Republic squad for their upcoming internationals, have both returned to training.

And the pair could provide boss Sean Dyche with two welcome extra options in his squad for Sunday’s Roses clash at Turf Moor.

“We think we’ve got better news with Westy and Vyds,” said Dyche, whose side will be looking to follow up their penalty shootout win over Newcastle United in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night.

“They have been on the grass today.

“We’ll see how they react tomorrow before making a decision on them, but it looks like better news.

“There was nothing serious to report from the other night, so hopefully it’s two bodies back in the thinking.”

The Clarets will also have former Leeds winger Aaron Lennon available for selection for the first time in the league this season after he signed a 12 month deal at Turf Moor this week.

But defender Kevin Long, who is back working with the squad, and midfielder Dale Stephens are not yet ready to return as they continue their recoveries from surgery.
