Burnley FC in the Community and Burnley Football Club were proud to host the stadium’s first ever Community Iftar recently.
To celebrate Ramadan, the event offered the football club the chance to engage with the local community, with charities including Islamic Relief, Building Bridges Burnley and Community Outreach all in attendance on the evening, alongside representatives from the club, community and Burnley FC Academy.
Cllr Afrasaib Anwar MBE, Leader - Burnley Council and Building Bridges Burnley said: “I think it’s been absolutely brilliant, just amazing to see so many members from right across our communities, Muslim community, but also those people who have fasted for the day who are not Muslim, from other faiths, other communities, who have come to celebrate the month of Ramadan. Everybody coming together to break fast shows the unity that we have in our communities here in Burnley.”

Michael Colquhoun, Director of Community Projects at Burnley FC in the Community added: “It’s been an amazing night for us as a club and community, our first ever Community Iftar. There’s a lot of people here tonight, up to 90 people. We’ve just broke fast together. It’s been a really nice event for the community and one we’re really proud to host.”
Tufail Hussain, Director Islamic Relief said: “The efforts by Burnley Football Club, to try and reach out to the local community are amazing, honestly incredible. It’s important for us to recognise that but to also work hand-in-hand with the Club to try and reach a community that we thankfully are a part of.”
Finally, Dr Yasara Naheed, Clinical Director Burnley East Primary Care was pleased with the togetherness shown by everybody in attendance on the night.
“Tonight’s been an amazing event and we’ve had so many different partners including Islamic Relief, Building Bridges Burnley, Dane’s House, everybody that you could name has come together to show that this is our home. We may have differences, but the main thing is we need to work together to make Burnley a better place for everybody.”
