Goalkeeper reflects on win over the Sky Blues

James Trafford was keen to praise teammate and long-time friend CJ Egan-Riley, as the defender bagged his first senior goal in Tuesday night's 2-0 win over Coventry City at Turf Moor.

The shot-stopper progressed through the Manchester City Academy ranks alongside Egan-Riley and the pair have built a great relationship on the pitch, as well as off it.

After taking all three points and claiming an 11th clean sheet of the 2024/25 campaign, Trafford smiled: "I'm proud of him (Egan-Riley), he's got an eye for goal and I'm proud he's finally got his first one tonight.

"It's a moment that will stick with us for a long time, it's special for us both to be sharing the pitch together, I'm really pleased for him, it's brilliant."

The victory against the Sky Blues saw the Clarets secure a third consecutive Sky Bet Championship win, a fourth straight clean sheet and Trafford is thriving off playing behind a solid defensive unit.

"It was good fun, Coventry were decent. They played some good stuff, but we stuck to our gameplan throughout and delivered what the manager had asked for.

"They're all top defenders, there's some real experience in there too with John (Egan) and Wozza (Worrall). Me and CJ grew up playing together, so it's great fun playing alongside him.

"Maxi (Esteve) obviously I played with last season, Lucas (Pires) is doing really well and Connor is a top professional, so it just works really well amongst us."

Burnley now head to Stoke City this weekend with Trafford believing three back-to-back wins was just a matter of time and the squad will keep on growing week-by-week.

The keeper added: "The games we didn't come away with the three points from, we knew we were the better side, so we were never flustered. We knew that wins will come and that's three in a row for us now.

"We all believed in each other, in the manager, in the staff and you can see that now following the recent results. The team is always growing and we keep going."
