The Clarets goalless draw with Portsmouth at Fratton Park saw James Trafford's impressive campaign continue, breaking and extending the club’s record for consecutive minutes without conceding a goal to 734 minutes.

Speaking after the game, the 22-year-old felt the Clarets had chances to win what he described as a 'tight encounter', but that he was happy to play a part with his 20th clean sheet of the season.

“It was tough. They are alright here so it was a tough game. The pitch is very tight. There were chances in the game for both teams, but I thought we should have had a penalty, I don’t understand why it hasn’t been given as handball. However, it is what it is the referee didn’t give it, and the linos didn’t see it.

“If that’s a penalty we win 1-0 but we could have scored more but so could they. It was a tight game.”

The hosts pushed Scott Parker's men throughout and had chances to take the lead, coming closest late on in the game with Trafford having to be called into action to make some vital saves.

“Yes, the save I made, we gave the ball away in a really poor area and there was a big overload in the box. I knew I had to effect it one way or another, I would have liked to have got it further away. But then your man ran onto it, I thought I’m just going to take his foot off here and try and save it. That’s what I did so yes, I played a part.”

Burnley have drawn several games 0-0 this campaign. When oppositions defences are making it difficult, how important is it to not become frustrated, when the natural intention is to want to score goals?

“We’re doing everything we can, we put in a lot of hours on the training field to score goals and the fact of the matter is these teams are really good defensively. Scoring goals is the hardest thing in football so it’s not as easy as people think.

“We haven’t drawn 0-0 through a lack of endeavour or a lack of quality. It’s just they defended well, and we should have had a penalty but didn’t get it.

“We take positives from the fact we kept it to nil and that we created chances. Now we go onto the next game.”

Trafford has enjoyed an impressive campaign so far, with today's new record set and 20 clean sheets to his name, how proud does that make him?

“Obviously, my name gets put on them but it’s everyone in the squad, it’s all the goalkeepers that I work with every day. It’s all the other lads because if it was just me on the pitch then we’d lose, and we wouldn’t keep a clean sheet.

“So, yes my name gets put on it, but all the praise is to everyone involved at the Club.”

With another point on the board the Clarets turn their attention to Tuesday night when they get back in front of the home fans at Turf Moor.

“Definitely, I'm looking forward to it. We’ll play at home against Oxford with all intentions to win and if the fans are on our side and encouraging, which I know they will be, we’ll hopefully get three points.”
