Amelia Hazard says last weekend’s big win over Stourbridge has given her and her Burnley Women teammates confidence, but that the group are taking every game as it comes as they head into the second half of the season.

The Clarets put nine past the Midlanders on a comfortable afternoon in Leyland and Hazard, who started and scored on the day, says the positivity has continued into this week.

“Training’s been good and everybody’s on a high after a good team performance and result last weekend,” she said.

“Short term it creates good vibes but we have to focus on the next game as soon as the new week comes, and it’s about not getting too high with the highs or too low with the lows.

“This week we’ve been focused on kicking on and we’ve been going through exactly what we did well and what we want to improve on.

“It’s a long season and we’ve got 11 huge league games left, so we’ll take each one as it comes.”

After Rhema Lord-Mears and Claudia Walker put the Clarets 2-0 up, Hazard netted a third of the game and her third of the campaign in the 23rd minute against Stourbridge.

“It’s always nice to score!” the 24-year-old continued.

“It was quite similar to the goals I score normally as an 8, approaching the box late - it just fell for me and it was a good finish.

“I want to score more goals and I’ll keep trying my best in every game!”

Hazard also netted the last time we faced Derby back in October, adding a second goal after fellow central midfielder Brenna McPartlan broke the deadlock in the first half.

It finished 2-0 that day and although the Ewes come into this one on the back of a heavy defeat to Wolverhampton Wanderers, the players won’t be taking the game lightly.

“They’re a tough, physical side so we know it’s going to be a battle,” Hazard finished.

“If we just focus on our own game I think we’ll be good enough to get the three points but we know it will be a hard game - anybody can beat anybody and they’ll be up for it.

“I’m not really looking at the league table, it’s just us against us at the minute and as long as we keep getting the wins we’ll stay in touch at the top of the table."
