Nathan Tella is relishing a return to Turf Moor to play in front of the Clarets fans again this weekend when Bristol City come to town.
The winger spoke to the media at the Burnley Training Centre on Thursday afternoon and discussed the test posed by the Robins, playing games consistently, and being welcomed warmly by the Club’s supporters.
Tella on loving life playing consistently:
“I’m loving it to be honest, it’s not a feeling I’ve had that much but now I have had it, I want to keep continuing it. Whether I have to stay wide or come inside, as long as I’m starting, I’m always happy and I’ll always have a smile on my face.
“I’m getting good feedback from my teammates and my manager, doing things right and hearing the fans singing my name. It’s just a good feeling and long may it continue.
“We want to win every game we possibly can, but you learn from a young age that if you can’t win, you don’t lose. We’re a team heading in the right direction and one day, something will click. I can’t wait for that because we can already see it every day in training.”
Tella on scoring goals:
“I could’ve had more! There’s been instances like Millwall where I had about six shots but somehow didn’t score, and at West Brom I had two chances as well.
“I easily could’ve been in double figures, but the team is doing well and I’m doing well. We’re taking a lot of positives from our performances, and from some of the results, and that’s the important thing.”

Tella on competition for places:
“It’s good, healthy competition. It’s not like everyone’s trying to prove that they’re better than each other, we all want the team to go in the same direction and [the competition] motivates all of us.
“For me, it means I’ve got to do the right things consistently improving, and they [other players] do too. It’s a long season and there’s going to be plenty of opportunities for everyone.
“We’ll keep working hard and performing at a high level in training, and then when players do play, we know they’ll do a good job.”
Tella on Vincent Kompany:
“He’s very good. He has such a big attention to detail. Sometimes there are things I’ll notice and not know how to relay the information, but he breaks it down and helps my understanding of the game.
“At the moment, he’s helping me look good, so I’ll keep listening to what he’s saying!”

Tella on Bristol City:
“Every game is going to be tough in this league, we know that. Bristol City have had a good start to the season, and we have too, so it should be an entertaining game for the fans and a good one to be involved in.”
Tella on the Clarets support:
“As a new player, you want to earn the trust of teammates and your manager of course, but it’s always quite hard to do so with the fans.
“Here, I’ve come in and had a number of good performances straight away, giving the fans a reason to be excited. [Having them backing me] is great, it gives me confidence, happiness, and makes me smile.
“My mum and dad watch our games, and they’re calling me Nathan Tella baby now, just like the song!”
