Vincent Kompany says he’s anticipating an absorbing game when Bristol City make the trip to Turf Moor on Saturday afternoon.
The Clarets chief addressed the media at the Burnley Training Centre yesterday, speaking about the Robins, how his side are ‘evolving’ and how important the Burnley fans’ backing is.
Kompany on Tuesday’s draw at Preston North End:
“I look at it in a way where I think we did enough to win the game, not in the second half, but over the course of it we had the chances.
“When you come up against a team that’s as well organised as Preston though, as a number of their opponents so far this season have found, you’ve got to make more of your chances.
“We’re getting a bit more respect off other teams, and it’s something we’ve got to make ourselves comfortable having.”
Kompany on progression:
“As much as it feels like we’ve been doing this for six months already, the reality is that there’s still guys we’re discovering at this stage and we’re still only in September.
“The type of start we’ve had, and we’re still very early doors, but we’re already seeing good things now which is a very good thing for us.”
Kompany on having a competitive squad:
“It’s something I’m a really big believer in. As long as I manage any side, I’ll try to create as much competition as we can, and then it’s our job to manage it, but I enjoy doing that side. We’re going to make sure that everyone’s ready to work hard and keep doing well.
“It [the best 11] evolves in any side in the world, the best side of any of the top Clubs in the Premier League for example will still change when they start winning titles and appearing in cup finals.
“Any team in the Championship will evolve by the time you’re at the end of the season and then the play-offs, it’s always a work in progress for every squad.”
Kompany on Bristol City:
“I’ve seen they’re a good side, they’ve got a lot of attacking threat and score easily, but they’ve conceded a few too.
“It’s going to be a completely different game setting than what we faced against Preston, and I think it [attacking] is in their [Bristol City’s] DNA.
“I think that’s what they’ll be happy about at the start of this season, and I think we have the same ambitions in this game, so I think it could be an entertaining game.”
Kompany on the Clarets fans:
“A good thing is that they’re buying into the team. I don’t forget that – and it’s always in my mind – there was a fear before this season.
“All I want to feel and show them is a team they can be proud supporting, and one that gives 100% every time they play.
“I think you saw that on Tuesday, we didn’t get the result we wanted but we go again and hope they look forward to coming watching us against Bristol City in what should be another good game.”
