Burnley start their 2022/23 Championship campaign with the short trip across the Pennines to take on Huddersfield Town. It will be Vincent Kompany’s first game as first-team manager.
Burnley
Matt Lowton is suspended after his sending off in last season’s penultimate game at Villa Park. He is serving a three-game ban.
Jay Rodriguez missed the last five games of last season with a hamstring injury. He is set to return to the squad.
Ashley Westwood remains a long-term absentee after ankle surgery.
The Clarets could give debuts to all of their summer signings, although Taylor Harwood-Bellis, Arijanet Muric, Ian Maatsen and Josh Cullen have previously played in the Championship.
Huddersfield Town
Former player Danny Schofield will take charge of Huddersfield Town for the first time. He has replaced Carlos Corberan as head coach.
Former Accrington Stanley defender Matty Pearson was substituted in the pre-season draw with Bolton Wanderers with a foot injury. He will be assessed ahead of the game.
Will Boyle is suspended after being sent off in his last game for Cheltenham Town before returning to Huddersfield in the summer.
Harry Toffolo and Lewis O’Brien both played in the Championship Play-Off final defeat to Nottingham Forest and have since joined Steve Cooper’s side.
Last week Tino Anjorin returned to Huddersfield for a second loan spell from Chelsea. He goes straight into the squad.
