Defender on FA Cup Fifth Round win and upcoming Quarter Final tie

Charlie Taylor was pleased to see the Clarets secure a spot in the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup and praised the team for finding a way to grind out the win.

“It was a game where we had a lot of the ball, a lot of chances and we just couldn’t finish it off. Luckily we got the goal at the end so we’re happy to get through and obviously we’ve just seen the draw now. It’s not been kind to us but yeah look it’s another game, we’ll go there with every hope that we can pull something off.”

The Clarets were dominant in the game, with 77% possession and 734 passes in comparison to Fleetwood's 226.

“Sometimes when teams sit in and make it hard for you, you’ve just got to stay patient and trust in the tactics and the system and hopefully that one chance that does drop, we can put it in the back of the net.

“It took till whatever minute it was, right at the end to do it but it’s another win and it’s another way that we’ve found to win the game.”

Taylor came close to netting his first Burnley goal on the night, with three shots including a header that was cleared off the line.

“Yeah I’m getting a bit of grief to be fair! So, it would have been nice for one of them to have gone in, I’m getting a bit of stick. Hopefully I get one this season but if not it is what it is.”

It's been 20 years since the Clarets last reached the Quarter Finals of the FA Cup, in the 2002/03 season, and Taylor is aware of what a special moment this is for the club and the fans.

“Definitely [it's special]. It’s probably the best cup competition in the world, the quarter finals is a great achievement and we want to keep going. We’re one game away from Wembley and that’d be a great day out for the players and the fans and just the whole club. We’ve got a tough tie ahead of ourselves now but look it’s a good achievement to have got this far.”

Next up for the home side is an away trip to Blackpool on Saturday, in the Championship, and Taylor is looking forward to the fixture.

“It’s another game for us, a tough game away but we want to continue the run that we’re on and just keeping going how we’ve done all season in the league, and carry on.”

Finally, on the Quarter Final tie with Manchester City, he added: “I’ve had a few bad experiences in my career there now so it’d be nice to finally get on the right side of a result there, but it is what it is. We’ll go there as confident as we’ve been all season.”
