Defender previews Sunday's trip to the City Ground

Joe Worrall is very familiar with Sunday's opponent Nottingham Forest, having spent a significant amount of his career at the City Ground.

Ahead of the trip, the 29-year-old sat down with the media to talk about learning from last weekend's defeat to Brighton, bringing his straight-talking approach into the dressing room and what he is expecting from Vítor Pereira's side on Sunday afternoon.

DISAPPOINTMENT AT BRIGHTON RESULT

“It's been a feeling of disappointment this week, it would only be natural to feel that way as well. I think we’ve had a good week in training, learning from things that didn’t quite go as planned. But also, it’s been a bit of time of reflection to look at the good things we did as well.

“It’s another one you look at and think it’s a missed opportunity. That’s the overriding feeling for myself but you’ve got no option but to keep heading forward and look forward to the next game.”

STRAIGHT TALKER

“All different players have different personalities and certainly that’s my personality [being a straight talker]. Mine’s quite easy to pick up, I guess.

“You can’t treat every player like they are the same person, or they should be doing this, why aren’t they like me. You’ve certainly got to speak to people differently and approach things maybe in a more sensitive way, to get across what you want. The manger is really good at that; it’s one of his main skills – the way he treats different players. He leaves lads alone who don’t need mollycoddling and maybe gets his arm around the boys who do. So, that’s something I’ve noticed this season from him, even in hard times and tough times, he’s been super positive, open, and honest.

“I feel that he’s giving so much and maybe we haven’t given the best account of ourselves in some fixtures.”

SUNDAY’S OPPONENTS

“I think they’ll be on a bit of a high from the result the other day.

“The City Ground will be bouncing, they are down near the bottom of the table, but they have a great squad, so it will be a tough test but one that they may fear more than we will because they’re kind of expected to win. They’re at home, they’ve got all the home fans behind them.

“We’ve got another opportunity to show an account of ourselves.”

PLAYING AT HIS BOYHOOD CLUB

“I’d love to play there. It’ll be nice to see some familiar faces going back, the old cliché answers but I want to play, I want to step on that pitch, feel the turf. I want to stand in front of the Trent End and the Bridgford End, like I did for a lot of years.

“That’s my feeling, to give the best account of myself for Burnley and hopefully, I get the opportunity.”
