Facility facing unprecedented demand having distributed over 4,500 food parcels since the start of the year
Defender Nathan Collins encourages supporters to donate items if they can
Clarets fans are being encouraged to support Burnley FC in the Community’s foodbank at this weekend’s Brighton game, with defender Nathan Collins lending his support to the cause.
The return of the Premier League this weekend will see the return of the foodbank collection bins at Turf Moor home games, manned by supporter group Clarets for Foodbanks and Burnley FC in the Community.
The foodbank, located in Charter Walk Shopping Centre, has faced increased demand in recent months, having distributed 4,500 parcels since the start of the year, feeding 10,500 people, 4,000 of which were children.
Burnley FC Chairman, Alan Pace said: “The club fully supports Clarets for Foodbanks and Burnley FC in the Community’s efforts in collecting for the foodbank facility.
“We are a community club, with our fans and the local community at the heart of what we do, which is why we would encourage any fans that are in the position to do so to donate any food items to the foodbank collection points on a matchday.
“The work the staff and supporters of the foodbank are doing is fantastic, they are playing an integral role in the town helping thousands of people, and Burnley FC are proud to support such an important cause.”
Sean Danaher and Nathan Norris from Burnley FC in the Community will be on Harry Potts Way prior to kick-off at 1pm on Saturday, to offer fans more information about the foodbank and to collect items.
Following this, the collection bins will be located at Turf Moor every home game.
Essential items the foodbank is in need of for parcels include, toiletries, tins of soup, rice, pasta, tinned vegetables, sauces, biscuits, snacks, baby wipes and nappies.
