Burnley Football Club extend a warm welcome to Abby-Leigh Stringer, who joins our women’s team on a permanent basis.
With more than 100 Women’s Super League appearances to her name, Stringer brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our ambitious group.
“I’m really excited to be here!” she said.
“I’ve been here for about a week now and I’ve really settled in.
“Training’s been really competitive and I’ve enjoyed it, so I’m excited to get going properly and for the season to start.”
Born in the Midlands, Stringer’s career started in the Aston Villa Centre of Excellence before she moved to Birmingham City in 2014.
The central midfielder spent four years on the Blues’ books, making 37 league appearances and helping them finish as runners up in the 2016 WSL Cup and 2016/17 FA Cup.
In 2018 she joined Everton and became a regular presence in her three years on Merseyside, before a move south to join West Ham United.
The 30-year-old enjoyed a similarly effective time with the Hammers, establishing herself with what she describes as a calm, honest and aggressive style of play.
2024/25 saw her head Stateside, where she linked up with former team-mate Zaneta Wyne at DC Power for the inaugural USL season.
Stringer has also represented England at various youth levels, including three caps as the Lionesses finished 2nd in the 2013 UEFA U19s Euros.
Furthermore, the midfielder was named in the same England squad as fellow new Claret Mel Lawley for the 2014 U20 World Cup in Canada.
