Club hosts inaugural meeting for exciting new programme, The Hive

Whether it be on the pitch, or off the pitch, Burnley Football Club are always keen to discover the next generation of talent.

New to 2022, we are delighted to launch The Hive, because every goal starts with you.

The Hive, is a Club initiative that aims to offer those looking to start a career in the sports industry, the opportunity to learn more about a wide range of areas, from business operations, community initiatives to roles supporting our football performance.

Candidates can apply to join The Hive and successful members will gain valuable insight into the running of the football club, receive advice from current Club employees covering a broad skillset of roles, benefit from networking opportunities, receive invitations to Club events and be the first to hear of Club job vacancies.

At Burnley Football Club, we are committed to informing the next generation of leaders around the benefits of a career in sport. The Club is an incredibly exciting place to progress a career, with a diverse set of roles and activities on offer. No two days are ever the same!

It’s our intention that through The Hive, we engage a diverse group of the most enthusiastic people, with a keen interest in the industry and us. We want to invest time in helping you to understand the opportunities in this sector via a real and beneficial introduction to a business evolving on and off the pitch. For that engagement, we commit to giving you a rounded, unique experience that will leave you better informed and we hope enthusiastic about us and the industry.

We see a major advantage for both us and the candidates to be the pool of Hive candidates set to be our first point of call for future full and part time opportunities to work at Burnley FC across our business.

Schedule

The Academy scheme will run from October 2022 to May 2023 and will involve:

· A kick-off day at Burnley FC, with insight offered into the business of football, networking with scheme members and Burnley FC, followed by the opportunity to take in a first team game.

· Monthly insight talks, in which Burnley FC or industry leaders speak about their experiences in the industry and offer advice.

· Mentorship scheme, where members are paired up with Burnley FC staff, working in an area of particular interest.

· Work shadow, where for a day, scheme members shadow Burnley FC staff members at Turf Moor or via active participation in meetings online.

· Group supervision of a piece of thinking around a key emerging topic in sport and completion of a project presented to Burnley FC ownership e.g., around sustainability, new media, fan engagement.

· Invitations to further events at Turf Moor or additional locations.

Eligibility

This is an entry level programme; we are looking for candidates who are looking to gain experience and understanding of the sports industry.

· We welcome applications from those just starting out in their career.

· Candidates must have the right to work in the UK.

· Candidates must be available to travel to Burnley, 2/3 times per year.

Criteria

Burnley FC are looking for people with a keen interest in the sports industry and who possess the following attributes:

· A fit with the qualities we feel will make a successful Burnley FC employee; drive, a growth mindset, flexibility, a communicator, collaborative, and committed.

· A genuine interest in sport and the football industry.

· A desire both before and during the programme to improve the experience of your fellow scheme members.

Application

To build our initial cohort, Burnley FC are looking for people to:

· Complete a short application online as to your motivations for the scheme.

· Attend virtually 2 x 30-minute interviews online with Burnley FC staff for shortlisted candidates.
