Work has begun on an exciting project to revitalise the artificial pitch used daily by Academy players at the Burnley Training Centre.
The pitch, located next to the Arthur Bellamy Media Centre and visible from the site approach on Stockbridge Drive, has been out of use for four weeks following the commencement of work.
Players will be able to develop their skills on a new state of the art, FIFA approved surface, with the foundations being re-laid and a new carpet being fitted.
The 3g pitch is designed to feel as true to a grass surface as possible, with a brand-new irrigation system also being fitted to prevent dryness in the summer months.
Additionally, the pitch is being increased in size to mirror Turf Moor and the surrounding areas will benefit from new fencing, floodlights, and dugouts.
Moreover, access to the pitch for maintenance equipment is being improved with the installation of a new road.
Once completed, it will be used regularly by Burnley’s age group teams right through from the pre-Academy to the U21s.
The Club’s men’s and women’s senior teams will also make use of the facilities when completed.
The redevelopment, which is the biggest investment in the facilities at Burnley Training Centre since 2017, is expected to take around 16 weeks.
It will therefore be ready for pre-season ahead of the 2024/25 season.
Speaking at the start of the work, Burnley FC’s Director of Football Development Paul Jenkins said: “On one of my first visits to the training ground I realised that the pitch and surrounding areas needed investment.
“It's important not only for the players that we currently have at the football club, but for those that we're trying to recruit too. This is the first thing they see when they come through the gates.
“To be stood here with the diggers on site knowing that we’ll soon have a fantastic playing surface is exciting.
“It’s a major investment of well over £1m too and, as custodians of this football club, we hope that when people look back in years to come it is obvious that the investment has been made for the right reasons.”
