Jay Rodriguez refused to take the credit despite his four goals propelling the Clarets past Rochdale and into the Carabao Cup fourth round.
The Clarets eventually ran out 4-1 winners at Turf Moor after four second-half strikes from Rodriguez, including a hat-trick inside 12 minutes.
The 32-year-old forward turned the tie almost single-handedly but was most buoyed by the team reaching the last 16 for the second season running.
“It is obviously great to get on the scoresheet, but also just to get through the tie,” said Rodriguez after the victory.
“I think to get through, I think Rochdale played really well, and we should have scored one in the first half.
“Going a goal down made it quite tough, but the belief we had and the work the lads put in, was fantastic.
“To get through to the main round was the main thing.
“It was a quick hat-trick wasn’t it? I was fortunate to get on the end of the deliveries. I thought Max played superb today, but the whole team worked really hard to be dangerous."
Sean Dyche gave the striker the nod against Dale, marking Rodriguez's third start of the season in all competitions and second in the Carabao Cup.
Rodriguez certainly took his opportunity and felt a gruelling physical regime in pre-season helped him capitalise.
Rodriguez added: “It is difficult, because to get consistency you need to play, but you have to keep yourself fit.
“I worked hard in the off-season, because I wanted to be the fittest I can be. I want to look after my body to play as long as I can.
“I can only control, what I can control. I have always said that I will just keep my head down and work hard.
“Whatever I need to do for the team I will do. It is a great feeling to score, but the main thing is that this kicks us on now.
“You go into training, work as hard as you can, and try and learn to improve your game.
“When you do get on the pitch, you can only try and influence things as much as you possibly can. That is what I will continue to try and do.”
