Jay Rodriguez is delighted to be off the mark for the season having got on the scoresheet in Tuesday’s 1-1 draw with Hull City, and is now targeting more goals in the weeks to come.
The Burnley-born forward spoke post-match about the hard work going on behind the scenes, his goal against the Tigers and another brilliant atmosphere at Turf Moor.
Rodriguez on the draw with Hull & steady progress:
“We dominated the game and had some great chances, but that’s football sometimes. I think we can be proud of our performance, we worked extremely hard.
“It’s a great journey to be on. We’ve come a long way in such a short space of time, and we’ve just got to keep striving for more, keep working hard, and keep listening.
“The performances are there, it’s just a bit of ruthlessness in the final third but we know we’ve got to work on that, and it’ll come.”
Rodriguez on his goal against the Tigers:
“It's important to get up and running for me to help the team. I still want to learn, and I still want to keep improving. You’ve got to keep working and get your head down because we’ve got a big game against Blackpool coming up.
“It [the goal] doesn’t happen just by luck, these are things that you work on since the start of pre-season. We managed to get it to Ian, and you know that with the quality that he’s got, you’ve only got to get yourself into the box.
“He’s put it on a plate for me which is nice and was a good moment at the time to get that goal back. It’s just a shame we couldn’t get another."

Rodriguez on confidence in his own ability:
“I always believe I can score if I get a run of games and keep doing the things that have done me good so far in my career. I have that self-belief and just want to keep learning – from the players, the manager & the staff, everyone involved. T
“Things can open up and you’ve got to take your chances, that’s what I’ve always aimed to do in my career, and I’ll continue to do that.”
Rodriguez on Ian Maatsen:
“He's so dangerous, great with the ball and great defending, but he’s really attacking and can hurt teams. He’s a great asset, a great player, and it’s great to have him in the team.”

Rodriguez on bouncing back from injuries:
“These things just test you, I’ve always believed that. If you can work hard and keep your head down, you’ll come out stronger.
“It was frustrating at the end of last season, and then picking up a little knock at the start of this season when I was looking forward to it, these things happen.
“You can’t predict it in football and for me it’s how you bounce back. Keep working hard to your maximum and things can only turn good.”
Rodriguez on the Clarets fans:
“Teams don’t like coming to Turf Moor. The fans are behind us enjoying what they’re seeing, and we’re frustrated not to win the game, but you can see the lads are working with patterns of play getting into good areas.
"We’re thankful to the fans when we’re here because it really does give us a lift.”
