Clarets number 9 Jay Rodriguez was thrilled to play his part in Saturday's win over Swansea City at Turf Moor.
Netting a brace on the day, bringing him to seven goals so far this campaign, he talked post-match of the importance of taking the positives from the performance into a week with two upcoming away trips.
Rodriguez on the three points:
“I’m feeling really positive, we knew it was going to be tough against Swansea. The way they play, they play some really good football. I thought we dealt with their threats, I’m really pleased with how we killed the game off, took our chances and kept a clean sheet.”
Rodriguez on his brace:
“It’s a special feeling for me just to be on the pitch, never mind scoring. It’s always a privilege for me to score, it helps the team and it’s something that I really buzz off.”
Rodriguez on gaining confidence from the win:
“For confidence it’s good, for mentally in football, but we know how tough this league is and we’ve got a game to prepare for against a tough side in Birmingham. That’s the main focus now, recovering because we know in a week’s time how things can change so our habits and what we do from now until that game is important, to keep on a level where we are continually improving.”
Rodriguez on squad togetherness:
“I’m loving it, the whole squad are a great bunch of people and to work with them every day, to learn off them, you know we’re still learning off each other because we’re all new. Everyone is really hungry and wanting to improve and I think that’s the key to that group, is to learn off the manager, the staff and keep improving and I think hopefully that’ll stand us in good stead.”
Rodriguez on this week’s games:
“The fixture pileup is tough but it’s for everyone in the Championship, it’s not just us, that’s one of the challenges that you have to come up with. Two tough teams, Birmingham and Sunderland but obviously we’ve got to focus fully on Birmingham now and like I said keep our habits good, keep our work good and hopefully we come out with a good result.”
