Burnley fell to defeat against the Reds on Wednesday night in the Carabao Cup fourth round, with goals from Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford proving to be the difference in a strong performance from the Clarets.
Manager Vincent Kompany made two changes from the team that beat Middlesbrough on Saturday, as Bailey Peacock-Farrell replaced Arijanet Muric between the sticks, with Ashley Barnes coming in for Jay Rodriguez in attack.
Manuel Benson, who grabbed a brace on the weekend, kept his place in the XI partnering Johann Berg Gudmundsson and Josh Brownhill behind Barnes.

First Half
There was an early scare for the Clarets, as Harwood-Bellis’ pass was intercepted by Rashford, who picked out Fernandes to thread a ball in for Garnacho, but his effort was denied well by Peacock-Farrell.
Burnley settled into the game, enjoying plenty of the ball, but the United defence stood strong to deny any early opportunities for Kompany’s men.
It was Erik Ten Hag’s men who did break the deadlock though just before the half hour mark, as Fernandes found Wan Bissaka with an exquisite ball into the area, for the full-back to guide into the path of Eriksen who fired home from close range.
The Clarets looked for an instant response though, as Barnes broke forward on the counter with Brownhill to his left and Benson to his right, opting to pass to the latter, Benson then weaved into the area but saw his shot fizz just wide.

Minutes later, the visitors had another chance, as Dubravka’s mis punched clearance from a corner looped towards his own goal, before a late clearance from Wan-Bissaka on the line got rid of the danger.
United then had another opportunity of their own with the break approaching, as Martial worked into the box, before Peacock-Farrell got a hand to his fierce strike.
Second Half
It took just five minutes into the second 45 for the first chance, as McTominay’s effort from outside the area sailed just over the bar.
United then doubled their lead just before the hour, as Rashford raced down the left and cut into the area, before firing low past Peacock-Farrell.
Burnley were then gifted a glorious opportunity to claw one back, as Gudmundsson picked out substitute Churlinov with a delightful through ball, but the North Macedonian winger could only poke it just wide of the goal.
Despite the away side's best efforts at pulling themselves back into the game, United stood strong and resilient to keep Kompany's men at bay.
