Michael Jackson’s young side came from behind to beat Everton 2-1 to keep their hopes of progressing to the knockout stages alive. Scottish youth international McGlynn was the hero with a superb 89th minute winner.
Ashley Barnes played 60 minutes has he continued his return to full fitness. Lewis Richardson played 45 minutes on his comeback after five months out.
Barnes and Richardson played up front in a 4-4-2 formation. Barnes made his first-team return as a substitute in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United on Tuesday.**
Lucas Jensen played in goal as he continues his recovery from wrist surgery. Richard Nartey, who is on loan at Mansfield Town, had a rare outing at centre-back.
Everton took the lead against the run of play after 31 minutes. Lewis Dobbin, who has played in the Premier League this season, cut in from the left and fired a shot into the corner of the goal.
The Clarets were level a minute before the break when ex-Everton youth Bobby Thomas headed home from Ne-Jai Tucker’s left-wing corner.
Ex-Fleetwood goalkeeper Billy Crellin made a fantastic double save halfway through the first half to deny Barnes and Tucker.
The second half was more cagey. Michael Mellon replaced Richardson at half-time and McGlynn came on Barnes just after the hour.
Joe Anderson had a chance to win it for Everton 15 minutes from time when he couldn’t convert a chance at that back post after a left-wing corner had been flicked-on.
Skipper Mark Helm went close three minutes from time with a 25-yard drive that rose above the bar.
The winner came in the 89th minute. McGlynn latched on to a lofted ball from Dara Costelloe. His cool finish won the game for Burnley.
The Clarets managed to see out the additional three minutes to clinch a fabulous cup win.
