Burnley suffered a 3-1 defeat at Turf Moor on Saturday, a first loss in five matches.
There was one change from the win at Watford last week, as Ashley Barnes came into Mike Jackson’s starting line-up, replacing Matej Vydra.
Former Burnley striker Danny Ings opened the scoring early on before Emiliano Buendia struck a second for Steven Gerrard’s visitors just beyond the half-hour.
Ollie Watkins headed in John McGinn’s cross seven minutes after half-time which extended Villa’s advantage.
Maxwel Cornet was on target for the Clarets in added time, but it proved to be a consolation.

First-half
Villa led on seven minutes through Ings, who ran onto Buendia’s threaded pass to slide left-footed beyond Nick Pope and into the bottom left-corner.
Searching for an immediate equaliser, Ashley Barnes tried his luck from distance, but the rising strike went over Emiliano Martinez’s crossbar.
Up the other end, Douglas Luiz’s free-kick 25-yards from goal was headed clear by Wout Weghorst in the wall.
The Clarets twice had opportunities, both through Weghorst, however our number nine saw a snapshot and looping header go off target.
Villa made it two with 31 minutes played. Lucas Digne drilled a cross in from the right for Buendia to strike a right-footed shot which deflected past Pope.
Burnley had a good spell of play later in the half, as Barnes, Dwight McNeil and Connor Roberts all forced Martinez into saves.

Second-half
Within a minute of the game restarting, James Tarkowski had to be substituted. The centre-back was replaced by Kevin Long.
Watkins then curled narrowly over Pope’s upright having been found by Buendia.
McNeil and Roberts combined for the Welshman to put in a dangerous ball which Tyrone Mings headed to safety.
Roberts’ cross found Aaron Lennon in the box, but the winger was unable to pick out Weghorst.
Villa’s third came after 52 minutes. Buendia collected possession and switched play to Digne who found McGinn to cross for Watkins to direct a diving header under Pope.
Minutes following the goal, Pope had to push Matty Cash’s powerful strike around for a corner.
Jackson introduced Cornet after 65 minutes, who came on for Lennon.
Watkins was denied his second of the afternoon by Pope’s good stop from close-range after connecting with Digne’s cross.
McGinn then got the better of Charlie Taylor to bend a low effort that Pope comfortably grasped.
Nathan Collins had to be alert to thwart Carney Chukwuemeka’s attempt in the box, while for Burnley, Weghorst’s header from Josh Brownhill’s free-kick dropped wide.
Cornet scored a consolation for Jackson’s hosts in added time, rounding Martinez one-on-one to convert int an empty net.
