Welcome to Turf Moor for this afternoon’s game against Aston Villa. It’s my pleasure to extend a warm welcome to Steven Gerrard, the players, staff, directors, and supporters joining us today.
Today’s game is of course another vital fixture in our battle to maintain our Premier League status. The results and performances over the last four games have given everybody within the club a real sense of optimism heading into the final campaign run-in. The atmosphere the fans have created in recent weeks has been incredible. I want to thank the supporters that made the trip to Vicarage Road last weekend who cheered the team on until the very end and played your part in a crucial three points.
It takes many people to make up a football club, and each play an important part, from the players on the pitch, the coaching staff, the board, the fans, the community, we all want Burnley FC to achieve great things.  The way to do that is by coming together and this week, we launched our Together We Can campaign, to symbolise a renewed belief as we all unite to get behind the team for the last four games of the season. Talking of togetherness, this leads me onto the further good news this week, as Jay Rodriguez signed a two-year contract extension. Jay is a key member of the club and I’m pleased he has pledged his commitment to his local Club for a further two years. I’m sure you will all agree that there have been many memorable moments over the course of his career here, and we hope that there will be many more to come.
Today’s game also sees us celebrate our Junior Clarets takeover and recognise the important work of Burnley FC in the Community.
Several of our Junior Clarets members will be taking part in various activities around the stadium, including live match commentary, stadium announcements and selecting the pre-match music.
Plus, in an exciting development for our junior fans, we are delighted to be launching our brand-new female mascot, Bella Bee. Sister to Bertie, both mascots will be in the Papa John’s FanZone this afternoon meeting fans, so we would encourage any families to stop by to meet the newest mascot of the Clarets family.
Also at today’s game, Burnley FC in the Community, the Club’s official charity, will be raising both funds and awareness of their work across the region.
The charity delivers over fifty projects in and around Burnley, from operating the town’s foodbank, to education workshops, sport programmes, and collaborating closely with local schools, improving the lives of residents and the community every day.
To celebrate Community Day, in addition to selling limited edition wristbands, the charity team are holding a bucket collection at the stadium, or supporters can pledge their support by texting ‘UTC’ to 70560 to donate £5. We recognise that times are hard for many, but I’d encourage anyone that can to please donate and support the amazing work that they deliver within our local community.
It’s great to be back on home turf for our penultimate home game of the season, so let’s come together once more and keep the spirit, support and momentum going to make it another memorable day at Turf Moor.
Up the Clarets!
Alan
